Connecting with European societies on climate change - research-based approaches to public engagement

Registration is closed for this event
Climate Outreach invites you to join us for this webinar on building an evidence base for public engagement on climate change, based on recent examples of public engagement research projects from across Europe.

Date: 07.12.2022
Time: 1-2:15PM GMT / 2-3:15PM CET
Location: online - register to receive webinar link

The purpose of the session is to showcase the rationale for evidence-based public engagement on climate change and share examples of how public engagement research projects work in practice. We will hear from Julia Rawlins, Robin Webster and Emma James about Climate Outreach's approach to evidence-based climate communications and share methodologies from recent European projects, in particular Übers Klima reden (Germany Talks Climate), SPARK and Fair Energy Transition for All (FETA) - see below for a brief description of each project.

We will highlight some key insights for civil society and public sector actors, and discuss our own learnings from conducting empirical research and translating social science data into practical tools and resources for specific target audiences. We will discuss why values, identity and language are essential components of effective responses to the climate crisis at individual and systems levels.

The webinar will be structured around a presentation including practical examples of Climate Outreach’s public engagement research projects across Europe, followed by a live Q&A and discussion.

Übers Klima reden (Germany Talks Climate),  a collaboration between Climate Outreach, More in Common Germany and klimafakten.de, aims to promote the understanding of values-based climate communications and to contribute to a wider, solutions-oriented climate discourse in Germany, by providing an evidence-based toolkit designed to support any organisation that wants to engage the German public on climate change.

SPARK is a European Commission funded project to build the awareness, capacity and active engagement of European Union citizens, particularly young adults, with efforts to bring about climate justice. Climate Outreach's recent research explores how young people across Europe understand and respond to climate justice messaging.

The Fair Energy Transition for All (FETA) project, set up by a consortium of European Foundations, is based on two years of listening deeply to the concerns and hopes of Europe’s most vulnerable citizens on the transition to green energy.
