Britain Talks Climate after the lockdown: new insights from a national survey

The Covid-19 pandemic has dramatically altered the context in which public engagement on climate change takes place. As the UK comes out of its third national lockdown, it is important to understand what impact the lived experience of Covid-19 has had on attitudes to climate change, and how the communication of climate change can best speak to those experiences.

In December 2020 Climate Outreach, as part of the Centre for Climate and Social Transformations (CAST), conducted a nationally representative survey of the UK population to investigate what Covid-19 means for climate engagement in 2021.

In this webinar, our Senior Programme Lead: Research, Dr Chris Shaw, will explain what the results from this survey tell us about how public engagement on climate change can build on the experiences of the last 12 months. The webinar will focus on what the Britain Talks Climate model shows us about the climate narratives that unite us, and the narratives that divide us when we talk about climate change in the context of Covid 19. Joining Chris is fellow Climate Outreach researcher, Dr Susie Wang, and Professor Wouter Poortinga, Associate Director at Cardiff University's CAST Centre, who will also be sharing their insights of the survey and answering your questions.
